EVERYONE HAS A PART TO PLAY

Bellbird Public School has a road safety education program with quality teaching and learning activities for all our students. Everyone however has a role to play in keeping our kids safe.

Staff:

•provide quality road safety lessons

•monitor entry and exit points

•encourage safe behaviour

Parents:

•always try and meet your child on theschool side of the road

•always be a role model for yourchildren

•never call your child across the road

•never double park your car

•always obey the 40km.

Students:

•follow road rules at all times

•are aware of their surroundings

•encourage their parents and familyto show safe behaviours around theschool.

TRAVELLING TO SCHOOL

Safe car travel

Children should enter and exit your vehicle via the rear passenger door on the footpath side, as this is the safest way.

Children up to 7 years old are required to sit in an approved booster seat, with the seat belt fastened, in the back seat of the car.

The NSW Roads and Traffic Authority recommend that children under 12 years do not travel in the front seat of a vehicle.

Riding on Wheels

Until children are 10 years old they should cycle in a safe place off the road and away from vehicles and driveways. If children ride to school parents and carers should actively supervise them.

They are to dismount and walk their bikes through the school grounds. Bikes are to be stored near the fixed equipment area at the owner’s risk. Students who ride to school without a helmet will not be allowed to take their bike home and parents will be phoned to make alternative arrangements.

Entering and exiting school

Please teach your children to enter and exit the school grounds using the pedestrian access gates located on Doyle, Kendall and Pittman Streets.

There are two flagged children’s crossings around Bellbird Public School located on Doyle and Kendall Streets.

Supervision

Until they are 8 years old, children should hold hands with an adult:

• on the footpath

• in the car park

• when crossing the road.

Until children are 10 years old, they should still be closely supervised in the traffic environment and hold an adult’s hand when crossing the road.

WHERE AND HOW TO PARK

Doyle Street

Due to no stopping and bus zones there is limited parking on Doyle Street (front of school) during the hours of 8-10am and 2-4pm. Additional parking is available in Edden st.

Pittman Street (Bottom Gate)

Please be advised that vehicles are required to park parallel to the fence, in the direction of the traffic along Pittman Street. This is an important measure to ensure the safety of our students.

Kendall Street

Parking is parallel to the gutter. This is an extremely busy road. Please ensure students enter the car via the passenger side of the vehicle. A kiss and drop zone also operate in part of Kendall street (See below)

Laneway – No Parking(Kiss and drop only)

The laneway to the north of the school is a one way street with traffic movement heading up the hill only. This area is signposted No Parking. You must not stop for more than 2 minutes and must remain within 3 metres of the vehicle.

Staff car park (no parking or thoroughfare)

The staff car park is for staff use only. Please do not use the car park to drop off and pick up your children or as a pedestrian gate.
